    Voyager 2 launches

    It will use an alignment of the outer planets that comes round about once every 175 years.

  2. 5 Sep 1977

    Voyager 1 launches

    Launched about two weeks after Voyager 2, on the other path of the pair.

  3. 5 Mar 1979

    Voyager 1 at Jupiter

    A gravity assist bends its path toward Saturn.

  4. 9 Jul 1979

    Voyager 2 at Jupiter

    The first of four giant-planet flybys.

  5. 12 Nov 1980

    Voyager 1 at Saturn

    A close pass of the moon Titan sends it up out of the plane of the planets.

  6. 25 Aug 1981

    Voyager 2 at Saturn

    Another gravity assist, toward Uranus.

    Voyager 2 at Uranus

    The only spacecraft to visit Uranus.
